Common ground in the call of the wild
Whether we were seeking to be recharged, challenged, or connected, the AllTrails global community found inspiration on the trail this year. Let’s take a moment to celebrate our collective adventures.

Favorite trail of 2021: Na Pali Coast (Kalalau)
I feel peace and motivation from the sounds and feelings of nature. In a busy world, nature really reminds me of what’s truly important.”

Getting out on the trail allows me to connect with the Leave No Trace mission and find a balance between work and play.”
For the past two years, nature has been my therapy to deal with stress, anxiety and overcome seasonal depression. January 3rd I set out on my first hike of the year to Mina Sauk Falls...The trees were all snow covered icicles making for a picturesque winter wonderland...I plan to make this an annual new year tradition moving forward!”

Favorite trail of 2021: Mount Baldy
Participating in the six peaks challenge has shown me my body is way more powerful and resilient than I ever thought. I've always enjoyed challenging myself physically but this is unlike anything I've done before; and adding pregnancy in the mix makes me feel like a total boss.”

Favorite trail of 2021: The Bibbulmun Track
Getting out into new environments and fresh landscapes is where I find the most peace —it's as raw and real as life gets.”
The trail was our proving ground
Summiting peaks, learning about our own backyards, trying out a new hobby — no matter our goals this year, the trail is where we tested our own limits.
I am a professor of biochemistry, microbiology and immunology at the University of Ottawa, and research has been my life...I found the aerosols from white pine have been shown to have a significant effect on the killer cells that fight infection. Although scientifically proven to help immunity, it is more the effect of walking in a forest that is beneficial to me. As soon as I enter Gillies Grove, my stress evaporates and I smile at the tallest white pine in Ontario.”

"I began to realise over the last two years that we don't always have to travel to new parts of the world for an adventure. You can start by opening the front door. It's funny to say but growing up in rural Ireland, there were hills I had never climbed and trails I had never run only until this year!"
"Not only did we hike the longest trails of our lives this year, we challenged ourselves to take up landscape and adventure photography during our time outdoors."

The outdoors brought us together
From family to friends (old and new) to ancestors long gone, the trail is where we went to disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect with each other.

Favorite trail of 2021: Mount Kulis
Taking my mom on her first hike in Mt. Mataripis was both an endearing and memorable experience for us...sharing my love for the outdoors with someone who originally inspired me to explore more of the world is pure bliss.”

Ch8sing Waterfalls has helped me build the most beautiful new relationships that only nature could build. Nature has afforded me the opportunity to connect Black women to its magical healing power, while forging diversity outdoors and changing the narrative.”

Favorite trail of 2021: Perley Rock
Being outdoors and connecting to the land is one of the strongest ways I feel close to my Indigenous culture. It gives me clarity, strength, and allows me to speak my truth. I feel closest to my ancestors and most at peace with what this life has given me when I am on a mountain, or surrounded by trees, or contemplating the stunning blues that make up an alpine lake."
